Step 1
Preparation
Before migrating any data, you have to understand which data have to be migrated and how does the new target system look like. If there is a global template and which cleansing has to be done.
Once we know what to migrate, we have to start with Data Mapping. Are all fields from the source system available in the target system? Are there some new fields, legal or safety requirements?
Step 2
Execution
Transfer the template to the Business and start to collect/extract data from the legacy system. Make the business understand the process of Data Migration and help to prepare load files. Help to create cleansing rules and start with Defect Management.
Step 3
Tests
Preparation and execution of test loads (as much as possible) to identify gaps and errors. Fine tuning of Migration rules and Data Migration process
Step 4
Go-Live
Organization and preparation of go-live process. Building contingency plans if necessary and execute the final load to the target system
